Alice is room number two. The wall behind the bed is painted a warm dove grey and carries a triptych of gilded leaves on a dark ground; pull back the charcoal curtains and you find a small balcony over the street. The palette is calm and easy on the eyes, from the bedspread in natural tones to the white ring lamps on the bedside tables, with a wooden wardrobe and ceiling spotlights for the evening. It is a double room for up to three guests, with a private bathroom, air conditioning and free wifi. The B&B occupies the first floor of a historic palazzo in the historic centre of Catania, breakfast included and everything within walking distance.
